PACIFIC GROVE, California (August 18, 2018) -- The Amateurgolf.com Monterey Four-Ball is underway at Pacific Grove Golf Links, and the team of Zach Korach and Kevin Smith is off to a great start. The pair began their round on the 18th tee, a par-4 playing as a short par-3 this week as most of the usual fairway is occupied with a large tent which will host car shows and auctions during the area’s famous Concours D’Elegance. Both making big contributions, Korach and Smith were able to rattle off eight birdies without a bogey on their way to an 8-under 61 (par adjusted from 70 to 69).

Playing just ahead of Korach and Smith, the 2018 California State Amateur Champion Bobby Bucey and his playing partner Domingo Jojola made some noise of their own, also rolling in eight birdies and rallying for a 5-under back nine to have a share of the lead heading into Sunday’s final.

The team of Kyle Rector and Andrew Sherman are well within reach, only three shots back of the leaders. Rector has been playing incredible golf as of late, and it showed on his scorecard today when he signed for a 5-under 64.

In the net division, we have two groups that managed 7-under-par rounds. The team of Frank Borges and Brad Pezolt shot 31 on both sides for a 62, identical to the nine-hole scores posted by Luis Miranda and Stephen Mort.

The shotgun final-round start will begin tomorrow once again at 7 AM. All players are invited to join the Amateurgolf.com team at Pebble Beach Golf Links to follow the final match of the U.S. Amateur between OSU’s Victor Hovland and UCLA golfer Devon Bling.
