FAIRFIELD, Calif. (Aug. 13, 2018) – Luis Terraza was the only player to get in the red over 36 holes at the Fairfield County Amateur, and it earned him a four-shot victory in the event. Terraza won off the strength of an opening 68.
That opening 4-under 68 at Rancho Solano Golf Club gave Terraza an immediate lead. The next closest player after the first round was Mike Torrence Jr. with 1-under 71. But Terraza came back strong with a 1-over 73 at Paradise Valley Golf Course in the second round to finish at 3 under. Torrence Jr. fell to 78 and finished seventh.
Terraza was four shots ahead of runner-up Garett Wagner, who had rounds of 72-73. Wagner won the 2016 Contra Costa County Amateur. Christopher Bott was solo third at 2 over (72-74).
In the senior division, Mike Parnow won the event with a pattern much like Terraza’s. Parnow opened with 3-under 69, then followed with 75 to finish at even par. It left him one shot ahead of Philip Yim, who had steady rounds of 73-74. Jack Anthony rounded out the top 3 at 2 over.
