OZARK, Mo. (July 19, 2018) – At Millwood Golf Club, the Missouri Stroke Play title went to one of the club’s own. Chris Obert, who plays college golf for Missouri State, used his course knowledge and skill to take the victory. Two of his teammates also finished in the top 5.
Obert shot back-to-back rounds of 69 to start the tournament followed by a 73 in the first half of Thursday’s 36-hole finale. In the final round. Obert carded five birdies, 11 pars, and two bogeys for a 68. He had a four-day combined total of 5-under 279.
Temperatures rose drastically in the latter half of the day on Thursday and created tough conditions.
Nick Westrich of Farmington, Mo., came in a close second at 4-under 280. Dylan Bekemeier and John Fuchs, who both hail from Springfield, Mo., tied for third place with scores of 283.
Two rounds in, Fuchs, who also plays for Missouri State, had control of the tournament. Opening rounds of 67 had him in great position, but Fuchs had too many big numbers on the final day. He counted two double-bogeys and a quadruple bogey in Round 3, and another double in Round 4.
Kory Franks, a Jefferson, City native and the third Missouri State golfer, rounded out the top 5 at even-par 284.
