Alex Moorman Captures Railer Title
Alex Moorman competing at the event in 2016
NEWTON, Kansas (July 24, 2018) -- Centerville, Iowa's Alex Moorman captured the 2018 Railer, Kansas Stroke Play Championship on Sunday at Newton's Sand Creek Station Golf Course. Moorman, a member of the University of Iowa golf team, finished at a record tying 10-under par (69-68-69=206), just one shot ahead of Mooreland, Oklahoma resident and University of Central Oklahoma golfer Blake Murray.
“I just played pretty solid,” explained Moorman. “Blake is a heck of a player. He fought through on the stretch. I was able to pull through, but he put pressure on be big time.”
For Moorman, who had been fallen just a stroke shy of qualifying for both the Bellwood and Southern am, a win at The Railer is surely sweet for the Hawkeye freshman.
In the Senior Division, KGA veteran Don Kuehn of Kansas City cruised to 14-shot victory over Kuehn, who finished at 10-under par 206 for the 54-hole championship. Andover's Bob Hartmann and Wichita's Steve Newman finished tied for second at 4-over par 220 total.
