SAN FRANCISCO, California (February 18, 2018) -- The youngest player in the field earned medalist honors in the Open division qualifier for the San Francisco City Championship, played at Lincoln Park Golf Course.

Jackson Koivun, at 12 years of age, shot a 72 at Lincoln Park to top the field of 160 players, many of whom carry single digit handicaps and are many times his age.

Koivun is an experienced junior golfer who has won Junior Golf Association of Northern California titles and qualified for his age bracket in the Junior World Championships.

Lincoln Park is the toughest par 68 course anywhere, and as usual yielded very few low scores.

James McGilley, Preston Jeung, Tony Ralph, and Ken Harrington posted 74 to share the second qualifying position.

Harrington, along with John Susko (for who the Susko Flight is named) share the course record of 8-under 60 at Lincoln Park, both using old school equipment.

Alex Woodward and Tyler Burnes were next at 8-over 76.

The field will now be split into flights of 32 players based on qualifying score, with the first round of match play set to commence at Lincoln Park next weekend.

Once down to the semifinals, play will move to TPC Harding Park where the champions will ultimately be decided.

Note: The original article had Robert Holloway as the qualifying medalist, but he was disqualified on Tuesday which made Koivun the medalist.
