ST. PETERSBURG, FL (January 5, 2018) - Florida State sophomore Greyson Porter fired the round of the tournament, a 7-under 65 to move to 6-under and take the lead after 36-holes at the 92nd New Year's Invitational.

After a cold, windy first round the conditions were marketably better on Friday for round two as Porter moved from two-strokes off the pace to four ahead at the halfway point at St. Petersburg Country Club.

Michael Mattiace (North Florida) will begin the third round in second place at 2-under after carding a 2-under 70 on day two, Ben Albin (Notre Dame) and first round co-leader Ben Doyle (Cal) are 1-under in a tie for third while Christian DiMarco (USF) and Ben Schlottman (Auburn) are tied for fifth at even-par.

First round co-leader Tyler Johnson (Middle Tennesse) dropped to 5-over while defending champion Hayden Buckley (Missouri) is 2-over. Buckley shot a 1-under 71 on Friday.

MID-AMATEUR DIVISION

With a 2-under 70 in the second round Kyle McCarthy rebounded from an opening 5-over 77 and at 3-over he will take a four shot lead into the third round.

Troy Vannucci is 7-over in second while Miles McConnell and Joe Lyons are sharing third with 8-over showing.

SENIOR DIVISION

In the Super Division Jimmy Jones Sr. has gone from four back to a share of the lead with first round leader Greg Marshall. Both players will start day three 6-over and six clear of the rest of the field.

Greg Hedrix is 12-over in third while Tom Hyland and Dennis Monahan share fourth at 13-over

ABOUT THE

Historic invitational golf tournament that originated on the Lakewood golf course in 1927. This same amateur invitational tournament -- which attracts top Florida amateurs and a strong group of out-of- state players as well -- continues, unbroken, each year although the club name was later changed to St. Petersburg Country Club. The 2025 New Year's Invitational Champion will earn an exemption into the LECOM Suncoast Classic, a Korn Ferry Tour event.
