PITTSBURGH, Penn. (August 8, 2017) -- Eighteen holes were not enough to crown a victory at Pennsylvania Senior Amateur at St. Clair Country Club.
Glenn Smeraglio of LuLu Country Club, and David Brown (Champion Lakes) were paired together in the final round and fed off each other's strong play -- both shooting rounds in the 60s that were the only sub-70 rounds of the 36 hole championship.
Smeraglio posted 3-under 69 to Brown's 68, falling a shot behind through 15 holes until a birdie on No. 16 against a Brown bogey resulted in a 2-shot swing and lead change. The players were playing a group in front of the leaders.
Things would stay the same until the par 5 18th hole, which both players would birdie.
After both leaders failed to match the 2-under total posted by Smeraglio and Brown, they headed out for a playoff, Smeraglio ending it convincingly with an eagle on the first playoff.
SUPER SENIOR
Don Donatoni of White Manor Country Club, birdied the final two holes to win the Super-Senior division by four strokes over Robin McCool (Saucon Valley), and Tom Bartolacci, (Huntingdon Valley).
The tournament was presented by LECOM.
