Doug Hanzel just keeps on winning

LANCASTER, PA (July 27, 2017) - Another tournament and another win for
Douglas Hanzel, this time it was in comeback fashion at The Hesler hosted by Lancaster Country Club.
Hanzel, now a five-time winner in AmateurGolf.com Ranking events this year, began the final round tied for second and two shots behind Kenneth Phillips but with a last day 71 Hanzel was able able to overcome the deficit and win by two.
For the week Hanzel combined rounds of 72-70-71 to post 213 while Phillips, playing on his home course struggled to a final round 75 which followed rounds of 69-71 that left him at 215 for the 54-hole event and in second place.
The victory for Hanzel, the top-ranked player in the AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings, can be added to his already impressive 2017 list that includes wins at the National Senior Hall of Fame, Coleman Senior Invitational, Florida Azalea Senior and Golfweek POY Classic/Natl Championship.
Third place was shared by John Fritz (70-72-75--217) and Steve Hudson (72-77-68--217) while Duke Delcher (75-71-72--218) took fifth.
In the Super Senior Division Dan Houlihan (72-77-79--228) eeked out a playoff victory over Todd Kennedy (77-76-75--228) while George Washburn (71-74-75--220) won the Grand Masters Division by four shots.
Day Two Recap
Playing his home club, Kenneth Phillips of Lancaster, PA extended his lead to two shots at The Hesler hosted by Lancaster Country Club. After an opening round of 69, Phillips shot a 71 for a 140 total.
Phillips is seeking his first major senior win, and he'll have to fend off some of the most talented seniors in the country to do it.
Douglas Hanzel of Savannah, GA, who has won four big senior tournaments this year and is the #1 ranked player in the AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings, is tied for second, two shots back at 72-70--142. Hanzel is the defending champion, winning by four shots a year ago. John Fritz of Mint Hill, NC is tied with Hanzel at 70-72--142.
Jim Starnes of Ft. Myers, FL, currently #5 in the rankings, is solo fourth at 72-71--143, while #4 ranked Michael Occi of Bonita Springs, FL sits alone in fifth at 70-74--144.
Tom Humphrey of Chadds Ford, PA had the round of the day in the Super Senior Division, firing a 67 for a 139 total and a four shot lead over Robert Hess of Casselberry, FL.
In the Grand Master Division, George Washburn of Frederick, MD (71-74--145) extended his lead to six shots over Peter Jacobi of Arlington, VA.
The final round will be played Thursday morning.
DAY ONE RECAP
Day one of The Hesler hosted by Lancaster Country Club is in the books and thus far Kenneth Phillips is leading the way.
Phillips, from Lancaster, PA, will begin the second round with a lead of one following a Tuesday 69.
John Fritz and Michael Occi are tied for second at 70 while defending champion Doug Hanzel, Jim Starnes, Keith Holmes and Steve Hudson are sharing fifth at 72.
In the Super Senior Division Evan Long (71) holds a one shot lead over four others while in the Grand Masters Division George Washburn with a 71 holds a slim one shot lead.
