Blaine Buente defends Chicago City Amateur Title
CHICAGO, IL (July 24, 2017) - There is no doubt that Blaine Buente was once again the best player in the field this weekend at the 113th Chicago City Amateur. Playing at the par-70 Jackson Park Golf Club Buente, who won the 2016 title as well, fired rounds of 63-63-64 to finish 20-under and as the six-stroke winner over Cully Johnston (-14) and Michael Fastert (-14).
Buente, a recent graduate of Millikin University, led by two-strokes following day one and never looked back as he steadily increased his advantage each day.
As a senior at Division III Millikin University Buente won the Elmhurst College Spring Invite, finished inside the top-10 eight times while also recording three runner-up finishes.
Less than 24 hours after winning the Chicago City Amateur Buente was able to stay hot as he qualified for the U.S. Amateur for the first time.
The top-five of the Chicago City Amateur standings were rounded out by Jonathan Hewett (-12) and Michael Barber (-12).
Additional Notes: Michael Barber shot an 11-under 59 on Saturday to tie the Jackson Park Golf Club record. On Sunday Ken Kaulen aced the 275 yard par-4 10th.
