SAN ANTONIO, TX (July 8, 2017) -
Ian Berrigan of Helotes shot a nine-under 62 that included ten birdies at The Quarry Golf Club to take control of the Greater San Antonio Amateur with one round to play.
Berrigan, a rising senior at McNeese State, started the day one shot behind first-round leader Seger Howell of Live Oak, and caught fire early, going out in 30 and making 3s on nine of his first eleven holes, including six in a row from the 6th through the 11th.
A bogey at the par-three 12th temporarily stalled his momentum, but he rebounded with three more birdies coming in to finish at 14-under 128.
Howell opened with a 65 and shot a 68, yet saw a one-shot lead turn into a five-shot deficit thanks to Berrigan's performance.
Cole Danielson (66-68) is in solo third at 8-under, while Colby Harwell (a former member of the USGA State Team for Texas) sits alone in fourth at 7-under after rounds of 67-68.
Play concludes Sunday with the final round at The Quarry.
