EAST SETAUKET, NY (June 23, 2017) - With seven holes remaining in the 36-hole Long Island Amateur title match Garrett Engel found himself 4 down and seemingly down for the count.
Just looking to keep the match at St. George's Golf & Country Club going Engel won the 30th hole of the match against Michael Miranda and all of a sudden there was hope.
Engel took the 31st hole with a par to pull within 2 down and then drew within 1 down with a birdie on the 34th hole. Needing to win one of the final two holes to extend the match, Engel and Miranda halved the 35th hole with birdies sending the tilt to the final hole.
All Miranda had to do was halve the hole to capture the title, but after he bogeyed and Engel parred the match was headed to extra holes.
Following matching pars on the first extra hole Engel completed his comeback with a birdie on the 38th hole.
Engel reached the finals with a 2 up win over James Nicholas in the semifinals while Miranda handled Michael Weinert 3&2.
