LUBBOCK, TX (May 9, 2017) - Led by medalist pace setter Monica Vaughn Arizona State is 6-under and the leader by six shots at the Lubbock Regional hosted by The Rawls Course.
On Tuesday Vaughn fired a 4-under 68 to move to 5-under and the lead in the individual race by two shots. Vaughn started her round with 1st and 3rd hole birdies before giving both shots back with 4th and 5th holes bogeys. The dropped shots however didn't faze Vaughn as she birdied Nos. 7, 9, 10 and 18 to rally into the lead.
Arizona State has also received strong play from Linnea Strom and Olivia Mehaffey who are tied for seventh at 1-under. Roberta Liti has also performed well and she is tied for 15th at 2-over.
Behind Vaughn in the individual standings comes Alex White (BYU) and Haylee Harford (Furman) are tied for second at 3-under while Sophia Schubert (Texas), Lilia Vu (UCLA) and Pimnipa Panthong (Kent State) are tied for fourth at 2-under.
From each regional six teams will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Outside of Arizona State the teams currently in position to advance are host Texas Tech (+6) in second, Oregon (+7) and Furman (+7) are tied for third, Texas (+13) is fifth, Kent State (+16) and top-seed UCLA (+16) are sharing fifth.
Currently UCLA is the only top-seed in intimate danger of failing to advance.
Four additional teams will begin the final round within eight-strokes of the final spot in the NCAA Championship including San Diego State, BYU, Oregon State and Oklahoma.
