HUTCHINSON, KS (April 24, 2017) - Following a difficult first round at the Big 12 Men's Championship No. 2 Oklahoma State is leading the way. The Cowboys turned in a first day 22-over tally and they are currently four shots clear of Kansas with still two days remaining at Prairie Dunes Country Club.
Kansas sits in second at 26-over, No. 4 Baylor is in third at 27-over, in fourth place it is No. 12 Oklahoma while the fifth spot is being held by No. 13 Texas Tech at 29-over.
Oklahoma State moved into the lead thanks to trio of players turning in top-10 performances on Monday. Currently, the low Poke is Viktor Hovland who after a 3-over 73 is tied for second place. Hovland got off to a smooth start with a two birdie bogey-free 2-under 33 front side but early on the backside the freshman struggled. First came three consecutive bogeys on Nos. 10-12 and then a triple-bogey on the 13th. Following the triple, Hovland was able to right the ship with a couple of pars and then a 17th hole birdie.
Also in the top-10 for Oklahoma State are Zach Bauchou (T6; +5) and Zachary Olsen (T8; +6).
In the medalist race, on a day where nobody could break par, Daniel Hudson of Kansas is out in front. Hudson, 2-over, holds a one shot lead following a three birdie, five bogey round. Teeing off on No. 10, Hudson bogeyed four of his first seven holes before settling down and birdieing the 18th, 3rd and 7th holes.
Sharing second place with Hovland at 3-over are Garrett May (Baylor), Brad Dalke (Oklahoma), and Ivan Ramirez (Texas Tech). Two others are tied for sixth at 4-over while four more are sharing eighth at 6-over.
Monday's second round was delayed due to weather meaning that 36-holes will be played Tuesday before the final round is played on Wednesday.
