BRADENTON, FL (April 11, 2017) - In search of a second consecutive Florida Senior Amateur victory Peter Wegmann is off to a fine start. On Monday the events defending champion carded a 2-under 69 and he will carry a one shot lead over two others into Wednesday's second round at Bradenton Country Club.
Playing as part of the morning wave, Wegmann birdied No. 3 and then Nos. 10 and 11 in succession to get as low as 3-under before dropping his only shot of the round on the 16th.
Wegmann will begin his second round at 2:09 p.m.
The two players just behind Wegmann at 1-under in a tie for second are Robert Polk and Bret Voisin.
Polk used a late surge of birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to reach red figures Tuesday.
Voisin was 3-over for his round after four-holes and again after seven but he rebounded from Nos. 8-10 by playing 4-under golf, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 8th.
Following a bogey on No. 12 Wegmann assured himself an under-par round with a birdie two holes later.
Buck Baumann and Doug LaCrosse are even-par and in a tie for fourth they round out the top-five.
