Taffy Brower leads Florida Women's Senior

PLANTATAION, FL (April 4, 2017) -- Taffy Brower opened the Florida Women's Senior Amateur with a 74 at Fort Lauderdale Country Club.

Brower, a 2014 FSGA Hall of Fame inductee, will carry a one-stroke lead into Wednesday's final round. Born in Rochester, NY Brower has been a force in Florida for a number of years winning nearly 40 events combined between Palm Beach County and state level events.

Over the years Brower also played in roughly 50 USGA events.

Laura Carson and Anita Venner are tied for second after 75's while Sarah Phillips-Durst and Kathy Glennon are sharing fourth following 77's.

In the Super Senior Division Reggie Parker tallied a first day 76 and she will hold a comfortable lead heading into the final round.

Nancy Chaffee is in second and Vilma Sapp is in third place.

Championship Format
- 54 holes of individual stroke play - Senior Championship Division
- 36 holes of individual stroke play - Super-Senior Championship and Field Divisions
- Maximum Field Size - 84 players
- Four Divisions - Senior Championship, Senior Field, Super- Senior Championship, Super-Senior Field
- The overall Champions will be the individuals from the Senior and Super-Senior Championship Divisions with the lowest 54 and 36-hole total score

Eligibility
- Female amateur golfer
- At least 50 years of age as of the first day of the Championship
- At least 65 years of age as of the first day of the Championship to select to play in the Super-Senior Division at time of entry
- A valid Florida GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 34.0 at time of entry
- Entrant is required to be a member of the FSGA
