RANCHO MIRAGE, CA (April 1, 2017) -- For the first time in her career Lucy Li has made the cut at major. Li made the cut after completing the first two rounds of the ANA Inspiration at Mission Hills Country Club in 1-over.
Li, 1-under following the first round, shot a 2-over 74 in the second round to just finish inside the 2-over cutline. In the second round Li birdied the 2nd and 11th holes while also bogeying four-times.
Last weekends ANA Junior Inspiration winner will begin her third round at 12:47 p.m. PST on the 10th hole and she will be playing alongside Danielle Kang and Ayako Uehara.
Li first played in a major at the 2014 U.S. Women's Open.
Remaining Amateurs in the Field
Eun Jeong Seong (+3; MC): After opening with a 4-under 68, Seong struggled in the second round shooting a 7-over 79. Starting on the back nine Seong struggled early but still found herself at 1-under after a birdie on the 3rd. Unfortunately from there Seong bogeyed a costly four-times in six holes to finish her round.
Paphangkorn Tavatanakit (+4; MC): Heading to UCLA in the fall, Tavatanakit posted rounds of 74-74 this week. Tavatanakit birdied two-times in the second round.
Andrea Lee (+4; MC): The Stanford freshman combined consecutive rounds of 2-over 74. In her second round, Lee birdied three-times.
Hannah O'Sullivan (+9; MC): After finishing as the low amateur last year O'Sullivan could never get it going this week. O'Sullivan carded rounds of 75-78 and in her second round she tallied a pair of birdies. The circles came on the 1st and 10th holes.
Katelyn Dambaugh (+16; MC): The senior South Carolina carded two birdies in her second round, including one on her final hole, the 9th.
LATE FRIDAY UPDATE
The ANA Inspiration continues to be in catch up mode after two days of play at Mission Hills Country Club.
After the first round was suspended on Thursday due to high winds it was darkness that put the end to second round play on Friday.
Roughly half the field remains on the course, including three of the six amateurs and of that group it is 14-year-old Lucy Li leading the way. Li, the winner of the ANA Junior Inspiration, is currently even-par thru eight holes of her second round and 1-under overall in a tie for 36th.
Teeing off on the 10th hole, Li birdied once on the 11th and bogeyed the 14th.
Reigning U.S. Women's Amateur and U.S. Girls' Junior winner Eun Jeong Seong couldn't find her form from Thursday and she struggled thru her six holes falling from 4-under to even-par.
When play resumes on Saturday at 7:15 a.m. PST the cut will sit at 1-over.
