PALM CITY, FL (March 20, 2017) -- On a gorgeous day for golf 16th ranked Wake Forest has moved in front at the Valspar Collegiate. After 36-holes of play at The Floridian the Demon Deacons are 3-over and the leaders by nine shots.
Wake Forest moved into the lead on the back of Eric Bae's 4-under 67 which moved him to 2-under and the share of the individual lead. Bae did bogey three-times during his second round but two eagles on par-4's, plus three birdies propelled him to a share of the medalist lead.
The par-4 eagles for Bae came on the 6th and 14th holes while the birdies rolled in on Nos. 5, 15 and 18.
Three other members of the Wake Forest line up are currently inside the top-20 with Will Zalatoris sharing fifth at even-par, Paul McBride in a tie for 11th at 2-over and Lee Detmer at 4-over in a tie for 19th.
Joining Bae atop the individual leaderboard is Thomas Rosenmueller of North Texas. For Rosenmueller it was a bookmark type of day with bogeys coming on the 4th and 5th holes, four birdies coming from Nos. 8-13 and then a double-bogey coming on the 14th hole.
Behind Bae and Rosenmueller are Kristoffer Ventura (Oklahoma State) and Scott Stevens (South Carolina) tied for third at 1-under while Zalatoris, Riley Johnson (Minnesota) and Tyler Strafaci (Georgia Tech) are tied for fifth at even-par.
In the team standings Houston (+12) is second, No. 3 Oklahoma State (+14); Georgia Tech (+14) are tied for third while first round leading No. 12 Texas A&M (+15) is in fifth.
