HILTON HEAD, SC (February 4, 2017) -- Tyler Gray (Lugoff, SC) lead a contingent of only four players to shoot under-par during the opening round of the 2017 Sea Pines Junior Heritage at the newly renovated Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love, III. His 4-under-par 68 was an outstanding round in the chilly and blustery conditions.

Fai Khamborn (Bluffton, SC) raced to the front of the Girls’ field as she carded a 2-over-par round of 74. Khamborn holds a three shot advantage heading into the final round on the famed Harbour Town Golf Links on Sunday, while Gray sits on a one shot cushion.

Gray made his round rather exciting throughout the day. His front nine included four birdies, three bogeys and only two pars, while the second nine included an eagle, double-bogey and three birdies to post his tournament low of 68.

“It was an overall good round. Didn’t make any bad mistakes, didn’t do anything wrong,” Gray commented.

Michael Sanders (Davidson, NC) matched Gray on the second nine posting a 3-under 33 and but coming up one stroke short heading into the final round.

The other two players under-par include Shiso Go (Bluffton, SC), who led after day one in the 2016 Sea Pines Junior Heritage, and Joseph Pagdin (Orlando, FL) who both sit two shots off the lead at 2-under 70.

Khamborn fired three birdies on the day but five bogeys during her round, carding an opening round 2- over-par.

Reflecting on her round, Khamborn noted, “it was pretty cold, I just told myself ‘play your game’ shot by shot.”

Numerous players are on the heels of Khamborn, only three shots back at five over 77 including Baylee Evans (Lancaster), Tracy Lee (Howey-in-the-Hills, FL), Claire Hodges (Sorrento, FL) and Kathleen Sumner (Daniel Island, SC).

The final round will be hosted by Harbour Town Golf Links.
