KERRVILLE, TX (February 5, 2017) -- An even-par second round was good enough for Jay Reynolds as he captured the Texas Golf Association's first Hill Country Medalist Series event.
Reynolds fired an opening round 6-under 66 at The Club at Comanche Trace before turing in a three birdie, three bogey final round that kept him at 6-under and four-strokes in front of runner-up Luke Healy.
Ross Wilhelm ended up third at even-par while Brian Marchiori and David Collura shared fourth at 5-over.
In the Senior Division the title went to Ron Hackelman with first round leader Bill Woodley settling for second. Bob Berger ended up third.
ROUND ONE RECAP
On day one of the Texas Golf Association's first Hill Country Medalist Series event Jay Reynolds shot a lights out 6-under 66. Reynolds will carry a comfortable six-stroke lead into the final round at The Club at Comanche Trace.
On Saturday Reynolds wasted no time in getting his round off to a good start. His first birdie came on No. 1 and after 7th and 8th hole birdies Reynolds turned in a flawless 3-under 33. Reynolds momentarily slowed with a bogey on the 10th but four birdies heading for home helped the opening day leader close with a flurry.
The final two birdies for Reynolds came on the last two holes.
With one round left to play Joe Sanders is in second at even-par while Ted Waldrip, Ross Wilhelm and Arnoldo Curiel are tied for third at 1-over.
The Senior Division is being paced by the 3-over Bill Woodley. Ron Hackelman will be the final round in second place and one-stroke back while Bob Berger is third and three shots further back.
