INDUSTRY HILLS, CA (January 30, 2017) -- With play suspended due to darkness late in the second round Long Beach State is leading the way at the Folino Men's Invitational. The 49ers took the lead on the strength of redshirt sophomore Joe Fryer's strong play. Three holes remain in Fryer's second round and he is currently 6-under and the individual leader by two at Industry Hills Golf Club.
Monday was originally scheduled as a 36-hole day but darkness forced the suspension of second round play. When play resumes on Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. PST the second round conclusion will prelude the final round.
Fryer began the day with a Monday morning 3-under 69 before continuing his strong play in the afternoon round. Teeing off on No. 15 Fryer bogeyed the 17th to drop to 1-over for the round but four birdies followed to push Clark to the lead. The birdies for Clark come on Nos. 2, 3, 8 and 10.
Heading into the second round restart the even-par 49ers will be the owners of a five-stroke lead. Fryer also received help on Monday from the 3-under third place Agostino Milazzo and Patrick Pockels who is 2-over and tied for 11th.
The top-5 in the team standings is rounded out by second place UC Santa Barbara (+5), third place UC Irvine (+14), fourth place CSU - Northridge (+20) and fifth place Boise State (+21).
In the individual race UC Santa Barbara junior Zach Smith is in second place and with four holes left in his round. Behind Long Beach State's Milazzo it is UC Davis senior Sam Gillis currently in fourth place at 3-under with an additional three players tied for fifth at 1-over.
