WINGATE PARK, South Africa (January 29, 2017) -- At the end of long 36-hole final day Aubrey Beckley used a final round 7-under 65 to come from behind and win the Gauteng North Open. Beckley, a top-100 player in the 2016 AmateurGolf.com/Golfweek Rankings, rallied to a 14-under finish that left him a shot in front of runner-up Malcolm Mitchell.
Playing at Wingate Park Country Club, Beckley registered his first ranking win of 2017 as he eyes an improvement over a 2016 season that included a win at the Cape Province Amateur and points in nine other ranking events.
In Sunday morning's third round Beckley did nothing spectacular shooting an even-par 72 that left him at 7-under through 54-holes. However, with holes dwindling in the round Beckley was 4-over but he rode consecutive birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 and an eagle on par-5 18th to an even-par round.
Mitchell closed with a 1-under 71 to finish 13-under, Louis Albertse was third at 11-under, Keegan Mclachlan was 9-under to place fourth while the 7-under Garrick Higgo was fifth.
