2016 South African Am winner Craig Ross to play in BMW South African Open

EKURHULENI, South Africa (January 11, 2017) -- A group of nine amateurs including 2016 South African Amateur champion Craig Ross will compete in this weeks European Tour BMW South African Open. They will be joining four-time major winner Rory McIlroy, two-time major winners Ernie Els and Retief Goosen and Brandon Stone.

Ross, from Scotland, earned his exemption into the field thanks to a 3&1 win at the South African Amateur championship match last March against South Africa's Dylan Naidoo. Along with winning the South Africa Amateur last year Ross, ranked 49th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, earned a T3 finish at African Amateur Stroke Play Championship and also reached match play at the British Amateur.

Among the other amateurs in the field this week are Philip Geerts (2014 Northern Amateur Open Quarterfinals), Dylan Naidoo (2016 South Africa Runner-up), Darin De Smidt (2016 Kwazulu Natal Open winner), Jovan Rebula (2016 Eastern Province Border winner), Kyle McClatchie (2016 Boland Amateur Open winner), Marco Steyn (2016 South Africa Amateur, Northern Amateur Open semifinalist), Juran Dreyer and Theunis Bezuidenhout (2015 Gauteng North Stroke Play winner)
