WOODBURN, OR (December 9, 2016) – After a stellar year locally, regionally and nationally, Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.) has been named the 2016 OGA Golfer of the Year, announced Friday by the Oregon Golf Association.

This marks the second time that O’Donnell, 63, has won this award; he also earned the honor back in 2009.

In 2016, O’Donnell dominated the senior ranks throughout the OGA Championship season. He was the only player to win two OGA Championships this year, and was named the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) Senior Men’s Player of the Year in November.

O’Donnell’s two wins were the two pinnacle Senior championships held annually – the Oregon Senior Amateur and the Oregon Senior Men’s Stroke Play. His win in the Oregon Senior Amateur, held in September at Salishan Golf Links, marked his third-consecutive win in the event, and fifth overall – most in the Championship’s history.

Earlier in 2016, O’Donnell cruised to a win at the Oregon Senior Men’s Stroke Play Championship, held at Centennial Golf Club. His three-day total of 202 – 14- under par – was 11 shots better than the rest of the field. His win was his second-straight title, and seventh overall Senior Men’s Stroke Play win – also most in the event’s history.

O’Donnell earned strong finishes at two other OGA Championships in 2016. At the final event of the year, O’Donnell finished runner-up at the OGA Men’s Team Championship while representing Arrowhead Golf Club. At the first Championship of 2016, O’Donnell earned a third-place finish in the Senior Division at the OGA Tournament of Champions, held at Langdon Farms Golf Club.

At this year’s Oregon Senior Open Invitational, O’Donnell finished an impressive fourth in a field including professional and amateur players. Nationally, O’Donnell advanced to match play (round of 64) at the 2016 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship. O’Donnell was runner-up in the national championship back in 2013.

The OGA Golfer of the Year is voted on by the OGA Tournament Committee, a group of OGA staff members, volunteers and liaisons who work with the Association to help improve and promote OGA events and playing opportunities.
