HONG KONG, China (November 11, 2016) -- It wasn't easy but American born Doug Williams defended his Hong Kong Seniors Open Amateur crown and won a major local senior title once more. Williams combined rounds of 74-72-77 at Hong Kong Golf Club to finish at 223 and one-stroke in front of Joseph Pethes (76-78-70--224).
Williams, the 1982 Spanish Amateur winner, trailed after the first round before taking a two-stroke lead into the final round.
"I’m delighted to win after such a tough day out there,” said Williams to the HKGA, “it’s always a struggle and somehow - I don’t know how I did it - but I managed to do it."
Tomas Manotoc (76-74-75--225) was third, Andrew Atkinson (73-75-78--226) was fourth while Isamu Takemoto (79-75-77--231) and John Ball (76-76-79--231) were fifth.

ROUND TWO RECAP
Doug Williams took over the Hong Kong Seniors Open Amateur lead on Thursday with a second round 72. Williams backed up his first round 74 and now sits at 146 and two-strokes ahead of the rest of the field at Hong Kong Golf Club.
On Friday Williams will look to win his second consecutive and fourth overall Hong Kong Seniors title.
Andrew Atkinson (73-75--148) is in second place, Tomas Manotoc (76-74--150) is third while first round leader Ching Koon Chu (72-80--152) and John Ball (76-76--152) are tied for fourth.
ROUND ONE RECAP
Ching Koon Chu shot a first round 72 to grab hold of the Hong Kong Seniors Open Amateur lead at Hong Kong Golf Club. However, with two rounds still to play the lead is a slim one as 10 players reside within five-strokes of the lead.
Andrew Atkinson is in second place after a 73 and Doug Williams is in third following an opening 74.

Hong Kong Seniors Open Amateur
1) The Hong Kong Seniors Open Amateur
Championship will be decided by stroke
play over three rounds, which will be played in
accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved
by the Royal & Ancient Rules Limited and with
the Local Rules approved by the Tournament
Committee.
2) Entries will be accepted from male amateur
players who have reached the age of 55. The
handicap limit for those aged 55-64 is 12 (or
USGA index of 12.3). The handicap limit for
players of 65 or over is 15 (USGA index of
15.3).
3) The 50 lowest scores over 36 holes and
any tying for the 50th place will qualify for the
final 18 holes.
