INDEPENDANCE, MN (September 11, 2016) -- After beginning the final round two-strokes behind, No. 10 Oklahoma rallied to win the Gopher Invitational for the second consecutive year. The Sooners moved into the top spot early in the day and never looked back as they finished 8-over and ahead by five at Windsong Farm Golf Club.

Thanks to a birdie on the 18th hole Oklahoma's Grant Hirschman was able to finish 3-under and claim medalist honors. The victory marks his second career victory, but first solo title. Previously Hirschman shared individual honors at the spring 2015 Liberty Spring Invitational.

Hirschman, a junior, put together a 2-under final round that included four birdies and two bogeys. When the dust settled Hirschman was one-stroke in front of Michigan State teammates Sam Weatherhead (-2) in second and third place finisher Dylan Deogum (-1).

Oklahoma also received strong play from sophomore Blaine Hale as he finished 1-over and in a fifth place tie.

Behind Oklahoma in standings was San Diego State (+13) in second, Michigan State (+14) in fourth, Kent State (+20) in fourth and New Mexico (+22) in fifth.
