MUNCIE, IN (September 7, 2016) -- Heading into the final round of the Indiana Senior Amateur Championship, Dyer's Terry Werner led by three. Werner added a 72 to yesterday's 67 for a 36-hole total of 1-under-par, 139 at Delaware Country Club. He defeated Sam Till Jr. by two strokes to grab his third Senior Amateur victory.
"I won our Briar Ridge Club Championship this past weekend and everything has been clicking for me lately," Werner said. "Anytime you can win a senior event in Indiana, you've done something right."
Werner is a Senior Open Champion ('14) and now a three-time Senior Amateur Champion ('09, '12, '16). His win today also earned him points for the IGA Senior Player of the Year Title, and he officially will be receiving this award in the Spring of 2017. Werner has hoped for a Player of the Year title for years now, and is excited to finally cross this off his bucket list.
"This has been a goal of mine for as long as I remember," Werner said. "It's what we all work towards and I am very proud!"
In the Super-Senior Division, Jim Anthony Franklin grabbed the title in a playoff against Mike Thompson, New Palestine. Both players carded 36-hole totals of 2-over-par, 142.
This is Anthony's first IGA Super-Senior Title. He is also an IGA Senior Amateur Champion with previous wins coming in '03 and '11.
