MYRTLE BEACH, SC (September 1, 2016) -- Kevin Fajt started the final round two-strokes off the pace but rallied to win by a pair.
Fajt, who led after the first round, shot the round of the day by three-strokes with a 70. Previously, Fajt had posted scores of 69-73-78 to finish at 290 and in front of second place finisher and 54-hole leader Wes Samons (74-67-77-74--292).
Defending champion Anthony Baker (73-70-76-74--293) ended his title defense in third, Eric King (75-74-75-73--297) was fourth while Bobby Stiffler (73-73-77-75--298) was fifth.
The tournament, which hosts around 3,500 golfers each year at more than 40 Myrtle Beach area courses, is in its third year of including a scratch division.
ROUND THREE RECAP
Through three rounds, Wes Samons continues to lead the Gross Division of the World Amateur.
Samons has tallied rounds of 74-67 and a third round of 77 and at 218 is the leader by one-stroke over defending champion Anthony Baker (73-70-79--219).
Ryan Reynolds (72-76-72--220) and first round leader Kevin Fajt (69-73--78--220) are tied for third, two shots off the pace. Bobby Stiffler (73-73-77--223) is in fifth place.
ROUND TWO RECAP
Wes Samons moved in front by one-stroke after the second round of the World Amateur.
Samons fired a 67, to follow up his first round 74 and now sits at 141. First round leader Kevin Fajt posted a 73 for a two day 142 tally.
Defending champion Anthony Baker (73-70--143) is in third, Bobby Stiffler (73-73--146) is fourth and Brian Katrek (74-74--148) is fifth.
ROUND ONE RECAP
On the first day of the World Amateur Kevin Fajt fired a 69 to take a three-stroke lead.
Fajt, from Greensburg, PA, currently leads Michael Batten and Ryan Reynolds who both shot opening round 72's. Former mini tour player and defending champion Anthony Baker is four-strokes back after opening with a 73.
