CANTON, MS (August 28, 2016) -- David Allen, 1-under, rallied late on Sunday to win the Mississippi Senior Amateur by three-strokes. Allen was the only play to finish in red figures as he overcame a two shot deficit to start the day at Deerfield Golf Club.

Throughout the week Allen combined a pair of even-par 72's and a final round 1-under 71 to finish on top.

Allen, 1-over with four holes left, sealed the deal with three birdies in the final four holes. The birdies came on Nos. 15, 16 and 18.

Rickey Riley shot the round of the week, a bogey-free 3-under 69, and finished 2-over in second place. Ricky Sims and David Griffin were tied for third at 3-over while Greg Brooking was fifth at 4-over.

Peter Marks took home top honors in the Super Senior Division and in the Masters Division it was Larry Wagster earning the title.

ROUND TWO RECAP

David Griffin and Robert Pannell will begin the final round of the Mississippi Senior Amateur tied atop the 36-hole leaderboard. Both players are 1-under and ahead of David Allen by a shot.

Griffin has posted rounds of 73-70 thus far at Deerfield Golf Club. During his 2-under 70 on Saturday Griffin birdied three times and bogeyed just once.

Pannell reached the top of the leaderboard by bouncing back from a 3-over 75 in round one with 4-under 68 in the second round. During his round Pannell birdied six holes, including five of his first eight, while bogeying three holes.

Despite holding a slim lead; Griffin and Pannell will have to hold off a host of challengers during Sunday's final round.

Allen is the closest just one back in third, first round leader Sean Casey and Ricky Sims are tied for fourth at 1-over and two behind.

The entire top-10 will begin the final day of play within six-strokes of the leaders.
