Arizona Amateur: Sam Triplett is among Quarterfinalists

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (August 25, 2016) -- It took 21 holes
but top-seed Sam Triplett was able to outlast 17-seed
Johnny Henno, to advance to the quarterfinal round of
the
92nd Arizona Amateur at the Country Club at DC Ranch.
Triplett, a junior at Northwestern, advanced to the
Round of 16 after a
comfortable 6&5 Round of 32 victory against No. 33
Matthew
Bergstrom.
Among those advancing to the quarterfinals is
defending champion and two-seed Ken Tanigawa. The
biggest challenge for Tanigawa so far came in the
Round of 64 when he was able to eliminate No. 63 Zach
Capel in 19 holes.
46-seed Anthony Cecere is the highest remaining
seed and he has had some tight matches
thus far winning 1 up in the Round of 64 and in 20 holes
in the Round of 16.

No 20 J.J. Gresco vs. No. 12 Cory Bacon
No. 2 Ken Tanigawa vs. No. No. 7 Sean O'Donnell

The semifinals will follow the quarterfinal matches
on Friday afternoon with the championship match set
for Saturday.

ABOUT THE
Arizona Amateur
The event will play host to a maximum field size of 156
players for qualifying rounds, with the field cut to the
top 64 players for the match play championship, all
competing in one division. The event will consist of a
36-hole qualifier, followed by a 64-player match play
championship.
