FSGA Jr. Match Play Invitational: Top Seeds Advance
Naples, FL (August 26, 2006) - The top junior golfers in the state have been selected to compete in the Junior Match Play Invitational at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples on August 26-27. The semifinal and final matches will be played on Sunday, August 27 beginning at 7:30 am.

In the boys 16-18 age division, Blayne Barber, of Lake City, the 2006 Boys Junior Champion and number one seed, won his first match against Chris Kennedy, of Bradenton, 3 and 1 and faces James Field Jr. in the quarters Saturday afternoon. The second seed, Logan Blondell, of Lakeland, also advanced to the quarterfinals beating Carson Weinand, of Naples, 4 and 3 in the first round. The remaining quarterfinal matches in the boys 16-18 age division will be completed Saturday afternoon with the semifinal matches beginning Sunday morning. In the girls 16-18 age division, the semifinals are set with top seed Sandra Changkija versus Kristen Hill and Erica Popson against Stefanie Kenoyer. Changkija, of Orlando, second on the Florida Junior Tour (FJT) points list, defeated Emily Flanigan, of Celebration, 9 and 7 in the first round.

In the boys 13-15 age division, Alex McMahon, of Naples, upset top seed Phillip Choi, of Orlando, in the quarterfinals 5 and 3. McMahon will next play Travis Ralph, of Redington Beach, in the semifinals after Ralph won his match in 20 holes. The seventh seed Matt Taylor, of Naples, also advanced to the semifinals beating second seed Hojin Kang, of Longwood, 2 and 1 and will play Curtis Thompson, of Coral Springs, in the other semifinal match. Five time FJT event winner Alexis Thompson, of Coral Springs, won her first match 9 and 7 and will play fourth seed Kendall Wright, of Orlando, in the semifinals of the girls 13-15 age division. Madison Pressel, of Boca Raton, and Casey Kennedy, of Venice, will play in the other side of the bracket.

This invitation only event features the top male and female junior golfers ages 13-15 and 16-18. Invitations are based on the Boys and Girls Junior Championships and the Florida Junior Tour rankings. The boys 16-18 age division consists of a field of 16 while all the other divisions feature eight players. The first round begins on Saturday, August 26, with the quarterfinals for the boys 16-18 age division beginning that afternoon. The semifinals and finals will be played on Sunday, August 27.

This match play invitation-only event features the top junior golfers ages 13-18. Boys 16-18 play on one course, and boys 13- 15 and all girls play on another. Invitations are based on the Junior Championship and Florida Junior Tour (FJT) rankings.
