Ben Wolcott medals at Tennessee Match Play

HARRISON, TN (July 29, 2016) -- Just days after winning the
Chattanooga Choo Choo in dramatic Ben Wolcott combined rounds of 65-70 to finish 9-under and claim medalist honors at the 16th Tennessee Match Play. Wolcott finished three-strokes in front of second place finisher Chip Thomas at The Bear Trace at Harrison Bay.
On Thursday Wolcott was 7-under with nine birdies and two bogeys. Wolcott, a senior at Ole Miss, caught fire on the back nine with six birdies, including four on the last five to close in 6-under 30.
The Friday 2-under round included an eagle on the par-5 6th, two birdies and two bogeys.
Thomas a Middle Tennessee commit reached 6-under with a pair of 3-under 69's.
The third place finisher was Brendan Caballero (UT Martin) at 5-under.
Match play begins on Saturday with the top 16 players advancing. The Saturday schedule includes the Round of 16 and quarterfinal matches with the semifinal and title tilts to follow on Sunday.

Tennessee Match Play
This match play event adopts the format used by the
PGA Tour for the World
Golf Championships Match Play tournament. Under
this format, a field of 64
players will be divided into 16 groups of four players
each. Each group will play
a round-robin format with each competitor playing
three matches within their
group. A player will receive one point for a win, a
half point for a tie, and each
group’s winner will advance to the round of 16.
Applications are open to
amateurs who possess an active USGA/GHIN
Handicap Index of 8.0 or less from
a TGA member club or course.
