Matt Gilchrest earns low-amateur honors at Texas State Open

LEWISVILLE, TX (July 30, 2016) -- Auburn senior Matt Gilchrest was the low amateur at the Texas State Open as he finished in third place, three-strokes off the pace. Gilchrest was an impressive 18-under at The Lakes at Castle Hills.
Over the course of four days Gilchrest put together rounds of 71-67-65-67. His best round, the third round 7-under 65 included six birdies, an eagle on the par-5 18th and only one bogey.
Throughout the week the 2015 All-SEC first-teamer recorded 19 birdies, two eagles and just five bogeys.
Juan Fernandez won the event by finishing 21-under.
