Colby Harwell takes 36-hole San Antonio Amateur lead

SAN ANTONIO, TX (July 9, 2016) -- Thanks to second round 6-under 66 Colby Harwell has taken the second round lead at the San Antonio Amateur. Harwell, 6-under overall, leads Kane Ybarra by a stroke.

Harwell shot a first round even-par 72 and was three off the pace at the beginning of the day. Out of the gates Harwell faltered with a first hole bogey. However, the dropped stroke ended up being his only one of the day as he went on to birdie seven holes.

From holes 4-6 the 2016 Carlton Woods Invitational winner birdied three in a row to move into red figures. On the back nine Harwell carded birdies on 11, 13, 14 and 16 as he shot a bogey-free 4-under 32.

Kane Ybarra is in second place after rounds of 69-70 to reach 5-under. First round co-leader Aaron Flores is in third place at 4-under. Flores has had rounds of 69-71.

Danny Simmerman (-3) is in third while Alex Bissar and Bobby Baugh, one of four to share the Friday lead, are tied for fifth at 2-under.

ROUND ONE RECAP

A quartet of golfers are 3-under and lead the way after the first round of the San Antonio Amateur at La Cantera Golf Club. Six others are 2-under and one-stroke off the pace.

The group pacing the field after the opening 18-holes of play includes Bobby Baugh, Patrick DiCosimo, Kane Ybarra and Aaron Flores. All three four players shot 69's.

Baugh had a very interesting front nine with just one par. The other eight holes were an five birdie, three bogey split as Baugh carded a 2-under 34. On the back nine Baugh settled down with only a birdie to his name and 1-under 35.

DiCosimo tallied an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys throughout his round. The eagle came on the par-5 14th.

Ybarra only dropped one-stroke during his opening 18-holes while rolling in four birdies.

Flores' was over-par through 12-holes before catching fire. With six holes remaining, Flores birdied five holes, including three consecutive to finish his day.

Seger Howell, Harry Ramirez, Marques Gomez, Chase Clayton and Alan Baxter are all 2-under and tied for fifth.

Cole Solis is the final player under-par at 1-under and in 10th place despite being just two shots back.

ABOUT THE San Antonio Amateur

54-hole stroke play championship. Open to any male with amateur status, 18 years or older as of the start of the tournament, residing in Bexar, Comal, Kendall, Wilson, Atascosa, Medina, Guadalupe, or Bandera counties for a minimum of three months prior to the Championship date. Active duty military residents are exempt from three month residency requirement.
