WAYNE, PA (July 6, 2016) -- Top-seed Christopher Crawford is among the four left at the 2016 Pennsylvania Amateur. The other semifinalist include Matt Holuta, Kyle Sterbinsky and Chad Warmbein.
In order to advance to the semifinals Crawford had to knock out defending and four-time champion Nathan Smith in the quarterfinals. Crawford took an early 2 up lead and never looked back winning 3&2. During the morning session, Crawford was able to handle 16-seed Eric Williams 3&1.
Crawford's semifinal opponent, 12-seed Matt Holuta, advanced with a 4&2 win in the Round of 16 over five-seed Matthew Steve and then a 3&2 victory against four-seed Scott McLaughlin.
The highest seed to move on was 15-seed Kyle Sterbinsky. In his first match, Sterbinsky upset two-seed Aaron Fricke 4&2 before beating seven-seed Stephen Dressel 6&4 in the quarterfinals.
His opponent, 14-seed Chad Warmbein, pulled off the second biggest shocker of the day as he outlasted past champion and three-seed Arnie Cutrell 1 up in the Round of 16. In another tight match Warmbein once again survived defeating six-seed Luke Miller in 20 holes to advance to the semifinals.
The first semifinal on Thursday will tee off at 7:30 a.m. with Crawford facing Holuta while the second match between Sterbinsky and Warmbein begins at 7:45 a.m.
Following the completion of the semifinals the championship match will follow at 12:30 p.m.
