BALTIMORE, MD (June 12, 2016) -- Tyler Herriott took command on the final nine of the 36-hole championship match and won the 95th playing of the Maryland Amateur 2&1 over Connor Flach at the Elkridge Club. Herriott was 2 down after the 26th hole but he was able to rally, winning the next two holes to square the match.
Flach, a senior at Loyola University Maryland did take one last lead on the 30th hole but Herriott, a senior at Ohio University, won the next hole and then the 32nd and 35th holes to close the match out.
“The wind made it very difficult,” Tyler Herriott told the Maryland State Golf Association. “You had to trust where you aimed, had to be confident, take your time and think about each shot.
The match was tightly contested throughout as neither player held more than a two hole lead.
