HUNTSVILLE, AL (May 14, 2016) - Only two players are under par after 36 holes at Huntsville Country Club. Emile Vaughn of Pike Road and Bryan Askew of Decatur each stand at 141 tying for the lead heading into Sunday’s final round.

Defending champion David Hancock of Greenville carded a two-over 73--148 and is seven shots off the lead.

In the Super Senior (65+) division, Ron Aldy of Tuscaloosa (144) holds a one shot lead over Fred Clark of Mobile (145).

The field was cut to the low 60 scores and ties, which was applied percentage based to each age division. Cut line for each age division: 50-56=154; 57- 64=158; 65+=166.

Awards will be presented to the low three 54 hole scores in the 50-56 and 57-64 age divisions as well as the overall Champion, and to the low three scores in the 65+ age division that plays a shorter course. In addition, the Champion will have his name engraved on a permanent trophy housed at the AGA office.

Crute Parker of Athens and Del Wood III of Vestavia Hills each fired a two-under 69 to share the first round lead at Huntsville Country Club.

Defending champion David Hancock of Greenville carded a four-over 75 to stand at six shots off the lead.

In the Super Senior division, Ron Aldy of Tuscaloosa posted an even par 71 to hold a two shot lead over Allen Hasbrouck of Huntsville, John Gibbs of Oneonta and Fred Clark of Mobile.

After 36 holes the field of 122 players will be cut to the low 60 scores and ties for the final round. Awards will be presented to the low three 54 hole scores in the 50-56 and 57-64 age divisions as well as the overall Champion, and to the low three scores in the 65+ age division that plays a shorter course. In addition, the Champion will have his name engraved on a permanent trophy housed at the AGA office.

Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 50th birthday by May 13, 2016, is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 10.4 (ages 50-64) and 15.4 (age 65+).

ABOUT THE Alabama Senior Amateur

Must be a resident of the state of Alabama to enter. 54 holes of gross individual stroke play. Players in the 50-56 and 57-64 Age Divisions will play the championship tees and eligible to win the overall Championship. 65+ Age Division plays a shorter set of tees and ineligible for the overall Championship. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 48 players and ties in the Championship Division and the low 12 players and ties in the 65+ Division.
