MONT BELVIEU, TX (March 18, 2016)--Danny Simmerman posted a 4-under par 67 to lead by three following the opening round of the Texas South Mid-Amateur at Eagle Pointe Golf Club. Simmerman winner of the 2014 San Antonio Match Play leads a duo of golfers at 1-under par.
Simmerman, who started his day on No. 10, began his round with an opening hole birdie. He quickly gave it back with a bogey on No. 11. However, Simmerman responded in a big way with three more birdies on his opening nine. Simmerman carded a 3-under par 32 as he birdied 13, 16 and 17.
The Shavano Park, TX resident picked up two more birdies to go along with a bogey during his final nine.
Just two other players finished the first round under-par. Both Jess Bonneau (Houston, TX) and Terrence Miskell (New Braunfels, TX) posted 1-under 70 to sit in a second place tie. Three more players are four behind after even-par 71's.
