PALATKA, FL (March 13, 2016)--A trio of players have a two stroke lead heading into the final round at the Senior Azalea Amateur played at the Palatka Golf Club.

Randy Elliot (Winter Park, FL), John Fritz (Charlotte, NC) and Doug Hanzel (Savannah, GA) have all posted a two day total of 2-over.

Elliot the first round leader, who finished third here last year, followed an opening round 69, up with a day two 73.

Fritz, who tied for sixth earlier this year at the Kingsway Senior Invitational, was the only player amongst the leaders to finish under-par shooting a 1- under 69.

Hanzel has been steady both days shooting a pair of 71's. The Savannah native is the defending tournament champion. This is just Hanzel's second ranking tournament of the year following a tie for third at last weeks Jones Cup.

Five players enter the final day two behind, while another two rest just three off the pace.

Round One Results

Randy Elliott, of Winter Park, Florida, shot a 69 on the first day of the Senior Azalea Amateur to lead the way.

Elliott plays a fairly heavy schedule of major senior events. He finished in the top 5 four times last year, including a third place finish at the Florida Senior Azalea. And just last week, Elliott took 12th at the Jones Cup Senior in Georgia.

Giving chase are two other accomplished seniors, Vance Antoniou (Barrington, Illinois) and Robert Cunningham (St. Cloud, Florida). The duo is tied for second place after posting rounds of even-par 70

Doug Hanzel and Bill Zylstra are in a fourth-place tie after opening with 71. Hanzel is not only the defending champion here, he was the 2015 Senior Player-of-the-Year in the AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings with four big wins. In 2013 the Savannah-based doctor of pulmonology won the U.S. Senior Amateur. Talented guy!
