Society of Seniors Spring Classic underway in Florida
PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida (Feb 15, 2016) -- In
unusually cold and windy conditions brought on by
the Polar Vortex,
Murphy Mitchell
posted a 74 to lead the first round of the Society of
Seniors Spring Classic at the Santa Lucia River Club.
Mitchell, from Scottsdale, paces a stacked field
that
includes defending champ Mike Occi, who posted 79.
Mitchell was runner-up in this event last year and is
certainly showing he's looking for a win this year. He
was the 21st ranked player in the 2015 AmateurGolf.com Senior
Rankings, with a T4 at the Trans-Miss senior
also giving him a hefty helping of rankings points.
In the Super Seniors, Frank Guise and Tom Elfers
(both of Ohio) lead after also posting rounds of 74
while in the Grand Masters, it's Bob Moyers of New
Market, Virginia (round of 78) with a one shot lead
over 2015 Grand Masters Player-of-the-Year Claud
Johnston from Ann Arbor, MI.
