PYMBLE, Australia (Feb. 4, 2016) – Battling rain in the morning and gusty winds in the afternoon, Austin Bautista fought his way to a day’s best 1-under to put himself in a tie with yesterday’s leader and the defending champion at the Avondale Amateur Medal, Harrison Endycott at 6-under.
Bautista grinded his way through the outward nine, going 3-over with bogeys on the par-3 fourth hole, then going back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 6 and 7. He turned things around on the inward nine with four birdies, carding consecutive birdie threes on Nos. 17 and 18 to post a 1-under 70 at Avondale Golf Club.
Endycott had the opposite experience on Thursday, firing three front-side birdies and only one on the backside, with a double-bogey 6 on No.10 and consecutive bogeys on Nos. 15 and 16. His 33-38 left him at even par for the round and 6-under after the first two rounds.
In third place, Cameron Davis is the only other player in the field to be under par. With four birdies and four bogeys, he finished at even-par 71 after posting a 67 on Wednesday. Currently he is two shots back with a total of 138.
Daniel Gale and Matthew Wittenberg are tied for fourth at 1-over.
