ST. GEORGE, Utah (Jan. 10, 2016) —Zach Pritchard probably didn't think he had a shot at winning the St. George Amateur when he teed it up for his final round at St. George Golf Club.
The BYU sophomore from Suwanne, Ga. opened with a 4-under par 69 yet trailed first-round leader Charlie Duensing by eight shots. Duensing's incredible 61 in the first round included three eagles, two of which came on par 4's.
Knowing he needed a hot round to catch Duensing, Pritchard opened with three birdies and an eagle on his first five holes. He tacked on three more birdies on his back-nine to post 12-under par in the clubhouse.
Meanwhile, following up his remarkable first round proved to be a difficult task for Duensing. The sophomore at the University of Minnesota recorded more bogeys than birdies en route to a 3-over par 76 to finish at 9-under par in solo third.
Rhett Rasmussen finished runner-up after rounds of 66 and 70 for a 11-under par total.
