Amateur Ben Eccles up four at NSW Open

SYDNEY, Australia — Australian amateur Ben Eccles leads by four strokes entering the final round of the New South Wales Open, at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Course in Sydney. Eccles shared the lead through two rounds, then fired 66 on day three and reached 19-under par, while professionals Matthew Millar and Peter Lonard are tied for second place at 15-under.
Eccles, who is a top amateur player in Australia, is currently ranked 23rd in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings. His best play this year has been at another professional event, the Oates Victorian Open in the beginning of the year, as well as Master of the Amateurs tournament. In both events, Eccles tied for third place.
Another amateur, Dale Brandt-Richards, is nine strokes back at 10-under par tied for 15th place.
