SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. — Kyle Pollema, a freshman at UCLA, broke away from a pack of four golfers at 67 through the opening 18 holes to claim a six-stroke victory at the San Clemente City Championship.
Playing the par-72 San Clemente Municipal Golf Course, Pollema, along with Taylor Casper, Wonje Choi, and defending champion Dan Sullivan, were deadlocked at 5-under par 67 after Saturday's first round. But Pollema went super low on Sunday, firing 63, to cruise to victory. He started quickly with four birdies on the front to finish well ahead of a charing Kevin Cline, whose 67 in the final round gave him a nice runner-up finish.
Sullivan settled for third place at 7-under 137, while Choi tied for fourth at 138 and Casper tied for 12th at 140.
