LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Jon Lindstrom of Lakewood Country Club put himself in very good position to earn his second CGA Mid-Amateur title as a 2-under-par 69 Saturday at his home course gave him a five-stroke lead going into Sunday's final round.

The 2008 Mid-Am champ stands at 8-under-par 134 after two days. His 18th-hole bogey Saturday marked his only blemish in round 2 after making three birdies and 14 pars.

Lindstrom's closest competition going into Sunday includes two-time champion Steve Irwin, also a member of Lakewood CC, and Ryan Axlund of CommonGround Golf Course. Both matched Lindstrom's 69 on Saturday. Axlund carded five birdies in round 2, while Irwin had four. Both checked in at 139.

Another two strokes back, at 1-under 141 after 36 holes, is defending champion Chris Thayer of Bear Creek Golf Club, who posted a 1-under 70 on Saturday.

The 41 players at 152 or better made the 36-hole cut.

The lead group of Lindstrom, Irwin and Axlund will tee off at 10:40 a.m. Sunday for the final round.
