Georgia Senior: Doug Hanzel extends lead

MACON, Ga. — Doug Hanzel of Savannah fired a 3-under-par 69 in round two of the Georgia Senior Championship and takes a six-stroke advantage into the final round. The 29th playing of the annual senior competition is taking place at Brickyard Golf Club, August 26-28.
Hanzel, who won this event last year, sits at 5-under-par 139 (70-69) through 36 holes. He recorded an eagle on six, birdies on four, 12, 16 and 18, and bogeys on five, 10 and 15 on Thursday for his 69. A trio of players are at 1-over-par 145 after two rounds, including Mark Nickerson of Roswell (74-71), John Skeadas II of Savannah (73-72) and Jack Kearney of Peachtree City (71-74).
Six players posted rounds under par on day two. Hanzel, the leader, turned in a 69, and Nickerson shot a 71. Mel Mendenhall of Marietta (70), James Kiely of Milton (70), Ralph Ireland III of Augusta (71) and Michael O'Donnell of Atlanta (71) also posted rounds in red numbers.
After 36 holes of play at Brickyard Golf Club, 73 players made the cut at 19-over-par 163 or better.
