Lukas Lipold of Austria wins Finnish Open Amateur
Lukas Lipold
HELSINKI, Finland — After finishing runner-up in 2014, Lukas Lipold of Austria fired a final-round 65 at the Finnish Open Amateur Championship to finish three ahead of the defending champion Lauri Ruuska.
Ruuska, the Finland native who won by a stroke over Lipold a year ago, opened with 74 at Helsinki Golf Club but fired 68 and 63 to jump into second place.
Lipold, who finished fifth at the Lytham Trophy and ninth at the Brabazon Trophy, was one of four first round leaders, including Morton Toft Hansen of Denmark, Aleksi Myllymaki of Finland, and Keijo Jaakola of Finland at two-under 71. His 68 in the second round sent him to Saturday with a three-shot lead, which he held all the way to the finish.
Stefano Mazzoli, who is fresh off a huge win at the European Amateur, shot 65 in the final round, as well, on top of 71-70 to take solo third place by three shots of Antti Ahava of Finland.
