Josh Lampley captures Mississippi Trustmark Invitational
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (July 26, 2015) -- Josh Lampley of Gulfport, Miss. captured the Mississippi Trustmark Invitational at Canebrake Country Club in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Lampley had a 1-shot lead entering the final round and started off strong with two birdies and an eagle in his first five holes. Lampley went 1-under the rest of the way and ended up with a final-round 66 which was good enough for a 2-shot victory over two-time champion Eddie Brescher.
Lampley’s final round put him at 11-under par and on top of a field of Mississippi’s top amateurs and PGA professionals.
“I played solidly today” Lampley told WTOK News. “Got off to a good start, four under through five and I just played smart the rest of the way in. I knew there were a lot of good players behind me capable of 63 or 64 so I knew I had to finish out the round strong.”
With 65’s shot by Brescher and Grant Motter, Lampley’s prediction and his game was spot on. This victory will go along nicely with Lampley's win at the Mississippi Mid-Amateur this past May.
