Michael Hughett Wins Oklahoma Senior Amateur
Champion Michael Hughett (OGA)
BARTLESVILLE, OKLA. (June 18, 2015) - The Oklahoma Senior Amateur Championship concluded Thursday at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville, OKLA. Michael Hughett of Owasso, Okla. defeated Kirk Wright of Oklahoma City, Okla. 5 and 4 in the championship to win the trophy.
After earning the #2 match play seed with an opening round 72, Hughett cruised through to reach the finals, winning most of his matches by the 16th hole. Wright, the #4 seed, also had a stress-free ride to the finals with the exception of his semifinal victory which took 22 holes to complete.
In the championship match, Hughett proved very tough to beat from the start. He made quick birdies on holes 2 and 3 to take a 3 up lead after 3 and would extend his lead to 5 up after 9 holes. Wright would birdie hole 12 to get one back but it was too little too late as the match ended on hole 14.
