New Mexico grabs 3M Augusta State Invitational win

AUGUSTA, Ga. — New Mexico emerged out of a pack of talented teams at the 3M Augusta State Invitational with their first win of the spring.
Seniors Sam Saunders and Gavin Green pushed the Lobos to a three-stroke win over Illinois, and by four over Georgia. Saunders, of Albuquerque, posted 66-70-70 to finish fourth while Green, of Malaysia, carded 69-71-69 and tied for ninth.
Georgia's star junior Lee McCoy picked up another individual win, with his final-round 64 helping the Bulldogs to a 10-under final round and a third place finish. McCoy captured the title by four over Texas freshman Scottie Scheffler, who won the 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur. Texas, coming off a win last week at the Linger Longer Invitational, finished fourth.
Illinois, the former No. 1-ranked team now in the five slot, was led by senior Brian Campbell and his third place finish. He had a second-roiund 65 bookended by two 70s to end the tournament five strokes behind McCoy.
