PALM CITY, Fla. — John Reynolds of Palm Beach Gardens, Darryl Osler
of West Palm Beach and Paul Quigley of Jupiter were the age group
winners Sunday in the 14th annual Palm Beach International golf
tournament on the Osprey Creek course at Martin Downs Country Club.
Reynolds, a former golfer at the Benjamin School, graduating in 1984,
and Duke University (1989) who returned to the game last year, scored
his first victory in Palm Beach County Golf Association play, winning
the 49-and-younger flight with 80 Stableford points, the highest total of
the weekend.
Reynolds added 37 points to Saturday’s 43, which shared the first
round lead. He made six birdies each day, five bogeys Saturday, one
on Sunday. “I hit the ball well both days but didn’t putt as well today”
the 48-year-old real estate salesman said after the final round.
Osler, 54, had Sunday’s best point total, 45, for 75 to come from eight
points behind to win the senior division for 50-59 year olds. “I just got
a new set of clubs and couldn’t control my distances in the wind
Saturday, never made a birdie,” Osler said. “But there wasn’t any wind
today and I was able to judge the yardages better…went after it…hit
driver on ever hole,” except the par-3s.
It was Osler’s seventh PBCGA victory since 2005. In 2010, he was the
low amateur and sixth overall in the Palm Beach County Open at the
Banyan Golf Club of Palm Beach.
Quigley won his flight for the second time, the 60-older age group, with
34-38—72. It was his fifth PBCGA victory. He also has earned a host of
state and regional senior amateur titles in New England.
